Summing It Up Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Summing It Up

If I were asked to give a synopsis
Of who I am…today on this spot
I would gather individuals from the past
one minute at a time and quickly jot

If I were to be concise and condense
the stack of notes would inevitably climb
like stair steps reaching to a summit
An accumulation of adventures in time

Those that I have known briefly or in depth
have connected to my psyche and attitude
Family, friends, and casual acquaintances
contribute to my being as I assess in solitude

Loving parents stirred my journey from the start
Older cousins opened my eyes… I took a look
Showing me what independent thinking was like
Learning more by example than the book

Each friend I found added hues to my rainbow
Each sad loss of closeness cut connections
Wondering freely, detached... searching to be found
Mapping out purpose…moving in an uplifting direction
