Sunny Day Poem by Juan Olivarez

Sunny Day

Sunny day in the city parks,
Mothers pushing strollers down the walk.
Kids playing tag flying like larks,
Old men on a bench, all they do is talk.

There's a couple staring dreamily,
Into each others loving eyes,
In their hearts music so heavenly,
There are no questions and no replys.

Two young turks slinging a football,
Trying to impress the pretty girls,
Leaping high and trying to fall,
Near the cutie with the golden curls.

On a table there's a chess game going on,
The two don't notice anything,
They'll still be here, when everybody else is gone,
Trying to check mate the king.

There's a kid strumming a six string guitar,
Producing gentle country sounds,
Singing to all around him, near and far,
Could it be he's Nashville bound?

Joggers cruising round, and round,
Getting their daily running fix,
Beer bellies jumping up and down,
In city park they join the mix.

People on blankets enjoying the sun,
Reading poetry from Browning and Poe,
Loving their books enjoying the fun,
Before they pack up and get ready to go.

A day in the park to worship the sun,
Living the day the Lord has made.
Enjoying the breeze till the day is done,
Watching the sun as it slowly fades.

6/5/10 29 palms ca.
