Shhh, the world’s still sleeping and outside it’s chilly
The BER months are upon us and cooler weather prevails
The season has changed, vibrant fall colours abound.
I get out of bed, a new day is ahead
Got to have a hot steamy shower
To freshen and wake me up!
After my morning ritual, what’s better than piping hot black coffee
Cup between hands, I sip slowly
Feeling the caffeine jumpstarting my system.
I slip on my winter gear, lacing up my warm boots for hiking
Toque on the head, mittens cocooning my hands
Ready to brave the cool October morning!
Venturing outside, I inhale deeply
Ahh, nothing can beat that fresh crispy air.
I look around me, still dark and quiet
The stillness broken once in a while
By the cries of feathered early risers.
Keeping warm, hands in pocket
I head towards the lake, quietly treading on sand and boardwalk
My gaze drawn towards the horizon, patiently waiting, expecting.
As the minutes pass, darkness gradually disappears
And quite without warning, I behold a miracle
In the dark horizon’s place, clouds begin to glow
A palette of pinks, oranges and crimson reds shine clear
Signalling the entrance of our majestic sun!
Squinting my eyes, I see her coming!
A spectacular display of light pillars and bold colours!
In full glory, she appears, piercing through the morning clouds
Sending her brilliant and fiery rays across the earth
Her warmth just slightly touching my face.
For several minutes, I continue to gaze up
Taking in the beauty of what I just experienced
Enjoying the solitude, the tranquility of my surroundings
Grateful, eternally, for this daily miracle.
