Suzie, My Love Poem by Kavitha Krishnamurthy

Suzie, My Love

Suzie my love was getting married
With a magical magnificence, she glided down
All the eyes were fixed on her
An elfin bride, so pretty in her bridal gown

I had never seen her so beautiful
I kept staring, she returned a smile
Perplexed and scared, I controlled myself
Not to blabber something that I had never told

How I wished my heart to speak
To tell her that she was the love of my life
An inner strength that I had lacked
I could feel it now, but was it too late?

I felt a powerful stab as I saw her halt
Besides the man whom I had come to hate
Remembering the old days when she had come
With crystal tears, her best friend had left

Knowing that the best friend was a guy
A wave of jealousy had swept me
Fighting it, I had consoled her
She had cried on my shoulders, the whole night

I closed my wet eyes as she exchanged rings
Seeing her now, I saw a stranger
She wasn’t my Suzie any more
May be it was too late, she was out of my reach

I saw both of them come near me
I was baffled, what they wanted now?
She came beside and kissed my cheek
I said, don’t worry darling, I will be always there for you

And my daughter said, “Dad I love you”….
