Symphony Of Sleep Poem by gary polonsky

Symphony Of Sleep

Rating: 4.3

A sonnet by Gary Polonsky

A puff of air crescendos into song,
A capella, yet no chique refrain,
Cadence of two long, one short, one long,
Railroad chiming of a crossing train.
So it is as she to sleep each night,
A bell or a whistle or a honk,
Goldberg Variations at their height,
Angela or Glenn's honkytonk.

Often with my head upon her breast
I listen to the gurgling from within,
Another set of sounds that often crest
Ere diminuendo lifts again.
Every second breath its own cacaphony,
One man's snort is another's symphony.
