Tagore Song (#1) The Unlimited In Limited Forms Poem by Tushar Ray

Tagore Song (#1) The Unlimited In Limited Forms

(Seemar majhe asim tumi bajao eki sur)

Oh my 'limitless' beloved
How do you play this game?
Bound in 'limited' forms!
In copious color, copious smells
In myriad music and myriad dances!
To fulfill your magical mission?
My Unlimited posing as limited!

Oh my Formless, beloved
Just looking at your animation
Makes my heart dance in trance
That's why your sweet company
Keeps me blissful all along!

If you and I commune together
Cosmic gates open in my front
And limitless ethereal waves
Makes me reel by my universe

Your shadow-less singular light
Made this mind-body-shade in me
Letting me taste the pure music
Forever in your best company!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Translated on 12/12/14 by Tushar Ray to convey the unique theme of Tagore's Song written in Bengali. However, the tender Bengali wording with soothing musical sound, carrying the unique theme can never be conveyed in a translation.

This singular song was composed, tuned and originally sung by Poet Rabindranath Tagore, the 1913 Nobel Prize winner in Literature. This song is one the jeweled collection in his book, 'Geetanjali' (meaning a musical Offering to God) where each song is unique by its own right. All his songs were intoned and sung by Tagore himself, each having appropriate classical Ragas to convey the deepest meaning to listeners. About Ragas, there are a total of six Ragas and thirty six Raginis in Indian classical music; the varieties within each Raga are known as Raginis.

I would like to translate more Tagore Songs in the coming days for the enjoyment of my poem-hunter friends.
