Taken For Granted. Poem by David Wood

Taken For Granted.

Rating: 5.0

You lose time - so much time
Time spent focussed on
Something, or someone.
The glass is always half full
But half full of hopes and dreams
That slowly fade and then
Evaporate in thin air.

The clock sits silently waiting
Six o'clock becomes eight o'clock
The evening meal chills
As you wait patiently
With pregnant anticipation.
An hour goes by, then eight
And your evening dulls into early sleep.

Waiting becomes forever
From early toast onwards.
Spending a ridiculous amount of time.
Sunshine comes unexpectedly,
But briefly. Momentarily happy and
For once on-time, but that is a one off.
In between there is no noise.
Only silence.

The day spent waiting for that brief
Moment, but you continue to pass
The time and then the weekend goes by.
Time passes slowly with the ignorance
Of people who come first in the queue.
You are that empty queue waiting patiently
To be full for that fleeting brief moment in time.

" The world would be a better place if people valued other people" " You are that empty cue" Heartfelt words expressed. We value time when we should values hearts more.
