Tell Me Why Poem by Anderson Greenwald

Tell Me Why

Tell me why you stayed
Why you put up with me
Why the man that I am
Deserved you in the beginning
Those my past thoughts
As I heard you on the phone
Crying out to whomever
How much you felt alone

So why? Why stay?
Why fake your life to me?

Could it be a hatred to my heart
A hatred to all the parts
In me that you fell
In love with.
Could it be a wanting to be with me
A wanting to never see
What it’s like to live inside
This heartbreak again.
I want you to be happy
Even if I’m not there to be
I just want you to cry no more
I want you to smile…

So, as time rolled on,
I thought I would do right
A thought into the starlit night
Jump, fall; crowded around me
All the police seem to be
Stalled at what they should do next
