Texas Highways Xxviii Poem by Armadillo Poet

Texas Highways Xxviii

Castizo-the graceful fall from class
And of a civilization

But it is also the ascendency
Recorded in natural history
Between the cycles of deserts and seas

To the south temples are erected-stacked-
And there will be one built to us also.

For we live on the highways of the migratory:
Great birds, peoples, and insects

Even the fire and crazy ants,
Africanized bee, hummingbird,
And soon the vampire bat

Will follow the risen path-
The sky dance of the Monarchs
