That Feeling You Get Poem by Penny Heart

That Feeling You Get

That feeling you get
When all alone
And the house is quiet
When the pieces fit
And you just want to moan
‘Oh no, not now. They were just friends.’
Then the phone rings
And it all ends

Click.

‘He lied, it can’t be true.’
Now where is the blade
When you need it most
You threw it away
Cause it caused him pain
To see the cuts on your wrists
‘I love him. He loves her.’
You write the note and hold it tight
As you pull the trigger

Click.

The gun’s not loaded
You break down and cry
Your parents are banging on your door to know why
‘I’m tired just let me sleep’ you say
And they leave you alone, again on their way
‘I miss you, I love you, but you don’t love me.’
You jump out the window to the bridge you run
Tears streaming down and your vision a blur

Standing on the edge of the bridge
Waiting for the right moment
Two arms wrap around you and pull you back down
‘I miss you, I love you.’ He whispers in the dark
He holds you tight and kisses your tears
Time is slow, minutes like years
You look up to see the face of your rescuer
Your best friend
The one you’ve had from grade school
The one who loves you most
