That i Am ~ My Mantra Poem

A carousel
whose horses aren't mindless i
am the round n' round i
am the up n' down
an' my back is never unsaddled but
jus' soon as that ol' music gets-ah-going
i gets all hoofed-up
forgets 'bout the heaviness an' i
sings, sings, sings.

Poet's Notes about The Poem

I wrote this at Lake Quassapaug Amusement Park, CT,1999. I was approaching a carousel that was about to be turned on for the morning 'checks'. I was there really early. When I heard the music of the carousel, this poem waas literally born in my soul! I ran to a food vendor, asked for a pen and napkin... This poem has een published in the Amherst Writer's and Artists' Journal, Peregrin,1998 (I believe) . It is also on the Companion CD for Writing Alone and With Others, Pat Schneider. I was invited to perform the poem for that documentary CD.
