The Affair Poem by Paul Hartal

The Affair

The tomato deeply loved the lettuce.
And it was also vice versa.

They were both willing to unite as one.
And they did it indeed and became a salad.

"You know what", said the lettuce.

What? , said the tomato.

"Well, it would be better to keep
our identities separate", said the lettuce.

"All right", said the tomato.

And so, through their deep respect,
dedication and affection for each other,
the lettuce and the tomato evolved and
developed in the salad
as new characters.

They became like detached sequels
of a cutting edge story against all odds.

But eventually the moment arrived.
And then the couple in green and red
united completely as they were chewed
scrupulously into a uniquely delicious
and intertwined taste.
