The Agony- Amazing Love

Rating: 5.0

The Supper
On that glorious, unforgettable Passover day
In the upper room of he who bore the pitcher of water
The Logos of the Almighty had His last meal as a man may
With the twelve who were of great matter
The twelve He had loved to His very core
Though He knew one would betray Him for no more
Than thirty pieces of accursed silver
(That which Iscariot could not savour
No not one
For he found himself in an inescapable snare)
He left with all but Judas, son of Simon
For the garden by the brook Cedron
Where He took His three faithful’s and went forth to pray
That the cup of doom might pass
But that the Father’s will stay
For the Christ came that the Father’s name be raised high

The Capture
After His talk with the Good Father and communion with the Holy Ghost
Back to where He had left the faithful’s and Jesus saw they slumbered at their post
He chastised them for they were highly susceptible to temptation
While He yet spoke
Alas the betrayer came with them who were under the deception of the Son of Perdition
With staves and knives came they and yet they sought His permission
For though Judas kissed Him whom they were to take
They went backward and fell to the ground with trembling
When He said but three words
“I am He”
There and then He showed His unfailing love for mankind once more
For when Peter decided to His Saviour protect
By cutting off the ear of Malchus the soldier
Jesus, that which was born in a manger
Chastened Peter
And put the ear back in place for He is the Master Potter
(His love abounds so much
That even when death had its nasty breath on His neck
Such a great act of mercy He did, that did the heart of a callous man touch)
The Agnus Dei was led to the slaughter
But lo, the sting of death is at His very beck

The Agony
Before Caiaphas He stood
Accused with no evidence save that of false witnesses
They spat in His face and smote Him with their palms and yet in the midst of their hisses
The Kings of kings stood His ground with unwavering mood
(Though He was alone since the disciples had run for their dear lives when the capturing entourage they did see
And Peter denied Him thrice so he might not be counted an outcast)
For greater peace than that of the Dead Sea
Was granted to Him by the Holy Ghost
The Lords of lords was mocked by the very people He came to show His saving grace
With the breaking of the new dawn
He was taken to Pilate who tried the case
And found Him a guiltless pawn
(When in actual fact He is the mighty God)
Pontius Pilate caused Him to be scourged
Yea, He was flogged even to pulp
Yet the people were not discouraged
All through the lashing they did not so much as gulp
As all they wanted was to see the Light of the world slain
Since the camouflage of the Father of Darkness was at work in them
Even to the point of blackmailing Pilate to release Barabbas to them
And to crucify the Messiah
Our Messiah
Thus Pilate succumbed to their repulsive needs at Gabbatha
To his (wife’s) ache and pain
The Jews dressed Him in a scarlet robe and mocked and smote Him more
After which they gave Him His old garment and beat a crown of thorns into His scalp, the very core
Nonetheless the Spirit of the Lord empowered Him to the point where His strength failed not
Then the cross was strapped on His back and He was followed en route to Golgotha
On the road to Golgotha our Saviour was treated as a slave whose life was of no matter
He whose name is Wonderful was reviled, spat upon and lashed
By people He could have called an angel to finish off in one breath, but for His love
Simon, the Cyrennian, was compelled to help Him carry the cross
On the mount Calvary, at the place of the skull, our Lord and Saviour was nailed to that wooden cross
And it was raised into the ground to stand high above
All things encompassing it
And then He made seven utterances on that cross
That have come to be known as “the Seven Words on the Cross”
Seven words of pure class
Seven words of unadulterated love
Seven words of true salvation
Seven words of the man who gave His all for the human race
Seven words of amazing grace
Seven words from the god-man
Seven words from God
And then there was total darkness throughout the land for three unending hours
And there was a staggering quake
One which rent the veil of the temple from top to bottom
And the bodies of the saints of old disappeared from their graves
For Jesus, the Christ,
The Son of God
Had died.
