The Augury In The Twilight Poem by Leo Briones

The Augury In The Twilight

from my window
the shadows of the melaleuca tree,
the smolder of dusk,

the spice of sweat and jasmine oil,
a reminder of a lover’s ghost,
I hold my breath—

smothered by the night’s freight,
wonder about the death
of contour, of flame, of light.
