The Beijing Olympic Games Are Over Poem by Francis Duggan

The Beijing Olympic Games Are Over

The Beijing Olympic games are over for that I won't weep
So much talk about them and such talk is cheap
China won the most gold medals that is their proud boast
But to such an achievement I won't drink a toast.

'Tis all about ego that's how it seems to me
But the poor souls of China still in poverty
Their Country's Olympic medal haul will not improve their lot
They are the forgotten and remain as forgot.

'Tis London's turn next for it's forthnight of fame
But when billions are spent to host the Olympics it does seem a shame
In a World where millions are dying of hunger and disease
And the refugee camps full of war refugees.

The Olympic Games are over for another four years
But for that I for one will not shed any tears
'Tis all about patriotism and ego that and little more
I say that again I have said it before.
