'The Block' Poem by MuRdA RhEE

'The Block'

I open up my window and look down on the block
Hoping God would take time to smile on the block
The news and the media just frown on the block
Politicians don't wanna help us and I'm like 'thanks a lot'
Innocent black brothers getting beat by the cops
Gangs preparing for war and loading up their glocks
TV's are getting stolen and taking to pawnshops
Cars are getting stolen and taken to chop-shops
Drug deals gone bad and are ended with gun-shots
Snitches are getting beat and now hanging from roof tops
Teens with one dream are playing ball on the blacktops
But the dope fiends have no dreams; too busy smoking the crack rocks

An aspiring young artist writes rhymes at the bus stop
Trifling baby daddies at the front door getting cursed out
Hustlers trying to hustle; selling something that's hot
Hooker on the corner; she's a high-school dropout
Black man, blue uniform earns the name 'Sell-Out'
Mamas scraping up money for their son so they can bail-out
Six days later he's right back in the jail-house
I'm just hoping and praying that somebody would just help out
On the Block…

So I put on my fitted and my akademiks jeans
Got my Lakers jersey on, I gotta rep for my team
I step outside so I can peep the scene
Being greeted by people who are looking real mean
I pass by a hooker with a trace of a ring
Imprinted on her forehead, I know it had to sting
Four brothers on a corner with a song to sing
A pimp talking loud about 'The American Dream'
Two cops molest one girl, she's only fifteen
It went to court but the verdict was, u guessed it 'not guilty'
Crooked pastor asking women if they are in need of 'Healing'
13-year-old gang-banger doing killing
On the Block…

Standing on the block now I open my eyes
Hoping I can help someone with the knowledge I can provide
If it's correctly applied and if we just take the stride
Then we can help each other improve on our lives
If we only decide not just to stand on the side
Then we can make those dreams real that the youth fantasize
About being lawyers and doctors, and those dudes that fly in the sky
Just put the gun down and stop getting high
Because it's no surprise
People from the ghetto do rise
Just wait for your chance then capitalize
Just follow the plan our ancestors devise
Then it wouldn't matter by who we were despised
Only on the Block…

This is really good. You really go into deep imagery about the pain of the block. Keep it up.
