The Brightest Day. Poem by Padraic Neary

The Brightest Day.

Rating: 5.0

I remember the day
when the sun shone the brightest;
you said that you loved me
and would always be mine.
Not for a moment
did I fear in the slightest,
that your love, unattended,
would one day decline.

I was so occupied
with business and working,
and achieving the goals
that this world calls success.
I never saw,
the real danger lurking,
nor realise that emotionally,
more can mean less.

I now have time
to contemplate at my leisure
the cold world of commerce
where I’ve made some small mark.
Like guarding a chest
after loosing the treasure;
my nights now are all lonely,
and my days are all dark.
