The Burning Tower Poem by alan brown

The Burning Tower

The Night was warm and peaceful
as I walked along my road
The sands of time had caught up with me
As on and on I strode.

The moon had rose upon the night
as the tower caught my eye
Was that a spark of intuition
lighting up the darkness in the sky

Just then the terror entered my mind
as a flame shot up one side
What was happening before my eyes
I was finding very hard to describe.

The evil flame crept up the tower
engulfing every floor
As children slept and adults played
behind their burning door

My life had changed that moment
as I watched on in disbelief
As I placed my print upon this page
I found it hard to speak

My mouth went dry my mind went blank
as I watched the people jump
Was life so unintentional
Or had terror finally struck.

I watched the news that evening
and through the light of day
It broke my heart to wonder
what had gone astray.

The people searched for relatives
and sometimes for a friend
Was the horror of this evening
ever going to end.

The fires out the smoke has gone
but the people still took my hand
And lead me to a place of rest
and calmed my shaking hand.

My heart goes out to all that were lost in this tragic fire and to their grieving families no matter what their race or religion. It was so heart breaking that I found it hard to watch and believe that it was happening. Lets all live in peace. and learn from this tragedy.

An excellent poem; it took me back to seeing the images of the building and wondering why this had to happen. A 10
