The Chase Poem by Tan Clover

The Chase

The hunted floating on air

The hunted tumbles and turns

The hunted floating on air

I stumble to catch his shadow

Racing through still skies

Through glen and mountain pass

I dart to share his space

I call, I cry, I chase

Feather flashing like fire

Talons to tear like teeth

Eyes bright with hunger

Mind flat to fear

He stops to watch and rest

A branch over a blackened brook

I hasten to his side

He returns a steadied look

I am captured by his stare

That speaks of chases past

A blink and he is gone

The victor floating on air
