The Christmas Homecoming Poem by Donna McCord

The Christmas Homecoming

The Christmas tree with all its lights
Reflected peace in the clear dark night.
The presents wrapped in bright colored paper
Were under the tree, what could be safer?

The parents were sleeping the same as the kids.
Who would have thought it would come to this?
No need to unplug the tree before bed,
Just leave them on, the parents had said.

But deep in the night a tragedy struck
The cords strung together began to spark.
The bright colored paper was fuel for the fire
And the family slept as the flames grew higher.

It’s little comfort to think they slept through it.
But sometimes the Lord will provide some proof to it.
His loving arms were open, He welcomed them home
For this family the sting of death was not known.

God has a plan for us all, that’s a fact
And He wanted this family with him intact.
He called them home when He thought best.
They are with Him now and are truly blessed.

For those of you they left behind
Keep thinking this in the back of your mind.
As you say your prayers and lay down to sleep,
Pray the Lord also your soul to keep.
