The Circle

The Circle

The circle reduces
It shrinks
A card
A candle
I weep
The circle reduces.

The family weakens
It is small
A lunch
A bottle of wine
I weep
The family weakens

The rock is there
It shelters me
Washed by life’s emotions
It gives succour and care
It nurtures my soul

The years pass by
I cannot believe
They hold their own comfort
And I am still me.

The circle reduces
Its links forged anew
With friendship and joy
Replenished.

That circle of family
Sorely lost and missed
Are never forgotten
In my heart they are kissed.

The circle is strong
It holds, it sustains.
My family, the rock
My oasis.

The circle is strong
My friends feed the fire
Never letting me falter
They remain by my side.
The circle reduces
But its essence is strong
The circle is infinite
And I will go on.

With burning star and flaming band
It kindles all the sunset land:
