The Clock On The Table Poem by Francis Duggan

The Clock On The Table

The clock on the table is ticking I feel it is ticking for me
Each tick nearer to my last heartbeat beyond that nothing else I can see
To those who believe in a life hereafter good luck to them is all I can say
None of an afterlife have come back to tell them though they are convinced of a judgement day,
The clock on the table is ticking and each tick brings me nearer to the time
That moment billions live in fear of for each of us there's a last rhyme
For some there won't be a tomorrow no petals on yesterday's rose
Our life span can be measured in seconds such is life one has to suppose,
The clock on the table may stop ticking but the great clock of time it ticks on
And on looking back time passes quickly another day of our life gone,
One day nearer to our appointment with the reaper we have on us a use by date
The great clock of time keeps on ticking for none it has been known to wait
And the clock on the table is ticking and ticking and ticking away
And each tick is bringing me closer to my last second of my last day.
