The Clouds Poem by Gianfranco Aurilio

The Clouds

The Gods sent the sun
to watch over mankind during the day
and the moon at nighttime
but the sun and the moon
got tired of watching
because their eyes
couldn't stand
all the evil deeds
committed by mankind
every hour of the day and the night
and asked the Gods
to send the clouds
so that their eyes were shielded
from at least part of this evil.
The clouds
were forced to induce
thunderstorms and tempests
because there was so much evil
and since then
deserts
are the only place in the entire world
without any rain

because there are no men.
