The Columbia 7 Tragedy Poem by Conley Murray

The Columbia 7 Tragedy

The day was February 1st.2003.

The Columbia was on its sixteenth day flight,
and everything seemed to be going just right.

The shuttle was on its way home.

sixteen minutes before it was to arrive,
there was a terrible tragedy in the sky,
that no one on board could survive.

There must have been a horrible blast,
and it happened ' OH SO FAST'.

Many people had gathered
to welcome the astronauts home.

Many were perhaps singing a welcome home song,
unaware that things had gone so wrong.

The astronauts had been on an experimental mission trip,
to help mankind,
and were on their way home with a good peace of mind.

It was a day of unbelief,
it was a day that put the whole world in grief.

The whole world shares with the families,
their sorrow and pain,
but it is a comfort to know they did not die in vain.
