The Darkness Poem by Amy J Richardson

The Darkness

Dwindles the day
when the young girls play,
but cherish the time
for that young they won’t stay.

The days become stressful
they'll all come of age,
and their teenage years
will have filled them with rage.
But to live on, they’ll try
a new life to make,
but the darkness will eat them
and their lives they will take.

A sorrowful end,
for a young life so true,
but when the pain is inside
there’s nought they can do.

Guts soaked with darkness,
the vast sky never clears,
a monsoon of sadness
that drowns you with tears.
It’s a vacuum inside
that caves in with each breath
It’s as full as your mind is,
but as empty as death.

They’ll try to escape it,
keep a positive mind,
but the power’s not theirs
the tendrils will wind
deep through the chasm
of their choking soul cloud
to take the controls
and speak them aloud.
“Believe me I’m fine, ”
God's sake! no I’m not!
The darkness has got me
And I just can’t.
Can’t fight it.
Not anymore!
Please!
I…

I can’t do it.

And when something that strong
Is ruling within
She’ll fight more than ever…
But we all know who’ll win.
