The Day Before Poem by Katherine Chandler

The Day Before

Rating: 0.5

Like the sorrowful sound
of a young mother who cries
for her child's scrapped knees,
a lump forms in my throat.

You, my dear, adorn the walls
of this beating heart of mine
as an integral part of my life
though you remain far from
my loving touch.

I can do nothing but wait...
hoping the gods bless you
and keep you safe.
But even so, there are no promises.
No one knows this as well as I do.

How important your life is to me -
I would give my own to see you live.
You ask nothing of me...
not even a healing prayer,
but trust me, I've prayed for you a lot!

Would that I could, you would be
forever by my side in this life journey;
two kindred spirits traveling life's
highway hand in hand;
your love has given meaning to my life.

Hold my hand tightly, if only in your dreams;
I willingly give to you all of the strength I have.
My love is with you forever and always,
in this life and the next...
