The Day Is Young Poem by Suhad Salih Abubakar

The Day Is Young

Clear your thoughts to the wind
For life is short
Purify your soul through the storm
For the day is just starting
Cleanse your spirit with freedom
And break all shackles of bondage
For the day is still young
Throw your burden to the vultures
Let them deal with your troubles and
If you allow yourself some time to think
You would realize the truth
You would see how beautiful life is
To walk on the shore bare footed
To feel the warmth of the sun on your skin
To feel the breeze on your face and
You will come know how much time has passed
How much you have dragged your feet
How much you have fed your ego
How much you have watered your pride
And how like a wounded dog you lick your wounds
Till when will you carry your cross?
Till when will pipe that sorrowful tune?
Till when will you wear that scary mask?
Set it down
Set all of it down
For your neck breaks in vain
Your tears flow in vain
Your heart aches un vain
Set all of it down
For the day is still young
