The Death Of An Unvaccinated Child Poem by Daya Nandan

The death of a two year old due to a preventable infection,
Reflected the carelessness of some parents in our nation,
Imagine an unvaccinated child dying of diphtheria,
A once common killer once again causing mass hysteria,

Because the parents we against vaccination despite advice,
Their innocent child had to pay the ultimate price,
Another life lost due to each anti vaccine believer,
That started with a child having cough, swollen tonsils and a fever,

It rapidly worsened until his body could not put up a resistance,
He was transferred to the paediatric ICU for respiratory assistance,
He struggled with medical assistance against death's knife,
But ultimately it progressed and multi-organ failure took his life,

Severe diphtheria with multi-organ failure took its toll,
Leaving a lifeless body of a toddler that death stole,
He had an entire lifetime ahead and now it is all lost,
Lives of many is what the ideology of anti vaccination will cost,

I hope that our nation's parents stop refusing vaccination,
And stop the casualties of this easily preventable infection,
I hope that we vaccinate and make our herd immunity strong again,
Let us all prepare our umbrellas before it starts to rain!
