The Debt Poem by Robert Winthrop

The Debt

Rating: 5.0

I give you these poorly wrapped gifts
And hope that you will find something about them to like.
These gifts that cost a few dollars
But can never equal the value of
What you give to me each day.
Maybe one day I will give you the Grand Canyon
Or Venice.
But like a debt owed to a loan shark,
The interest continues to grow.
Even if I gave you the moon,
I will never be able to repay you
For all you have given to me.
