The Decline - Poem by Joseph Anthony Montefusco

While human minds slowly decline
Poor poets and rich rappers rhyme
Investing in the follies of man
One to uphold, one to withstand

The poor poet pencils paper for rights
He incites the human race to get up and fight
Writing wonderful words to wage wars
Against the oppressor he evens scores

His ideals summed into the clenched fist
Writing rebellious rhymes in form of a list
Directed towards those who seek truth
To get them out of jail cells and voting booths

Now the rich rapper rhymes for greed
Caring only about his own needs
Scribing scribbles of sex, sluts, and sneakers
And grabbing his gun, gutting the weaker

His views fused into the dollar sign
Making malicious claims, Whats mines is mines
For those who seek gory glory and fame
To get them to dance, screw, and maim

But be it for treasure or treason
They both write and fight for a reason
However one will never see the light
And the other wont live after he fights.
