The Demise Of Mr Corrie Poem by Ike Khan

The Demise Of Mr Corrie

The demise of Mr Corrie
Made everyone rather sorry;
While crossing the road with a cumbersome load
He walked into the path of a lorry.

But it’s not as you might suppose;
He was nursing a runny nose.
As the truck drew near, he began to fear
He could feel the drips on his toes.

So he tried to pull out a hanky
And bearing in mind he was lanky,
His limbs, though long, were not very strong
And he ended up going all cranky.

As his lanky form went awry
Mr. Corrie emitted a cry
And startled a gull, which was flying to Hull
So it plummeted down from the sky.

But it wasn’t as you might think
He was toting a kitchen sink
Which being quite old, was covered in mould
Which emitted a terrible stink.

Now that particular smell
Made Corrie feel rather unwell,
Although with his nose you'd be right to suppose
That he wouldn’t be able to tell.

Then that gull came down on his head
And it felt as heavy as lead.
So he fell to the ground, and I know that you’re bound
To imagine he must have been dead.

But you’d be quite wrong to assume
That bird had caused his doom.
The colossal clout surely cleared out his snout
But did not put him into his tomb.

But he took just one little sniff
And immediately caught that whiff
He began to feel funny quite deep in his tummy
And that turned him into a stiff.
