The Devil May Cry Poem by Harlequin Rose

The Devil May Cry

Leaning against the window
of a pearl gray hotel room
looking down at San Diego
shimmering in the evening heat
a stranger awaits
in the bed behind me
her breathing tells age old stories
she's a princess
with her back against the wall
innocence in the flesh
a sweet creation
but a demon nonetheless
her cigarette glows in the darkness
the smoke lingers only for a moment
then becomes one with the walls around us
a line has been crossed
and she knows it
there are people we've lied to
and this woman
who never goes by the same name twice
became my salvation
and my surrender
tattooed and brilliant
tortured and reckless
she knows I'm not the cheating kind
and yet these darkened hours
and the wickedness in her fingertips
stops what time there is
one touch and she knows
I will lay my conscience aside
she's a viper
she has no shame
but I am at her mercy
another mindless crime committed against the one I love
but this is an existence I can't resist
she whispers against my neck
violent, the chill that follows
the touch, a poison willingly swallowed
and I know that this will end
when at last I break her heart
but for now I take her cigarette
and crush it against the wall
I take her by the waist
and we make love right where we fall...
