I wake to see the sun so bright,
Its rays do dance, a joyful sight;
The birds do sing, with melodies fine,
A symphony, a joyful chime.
I walk the fields, in gentle breeze,
The flowers do bloom, a rainbow hue;
And all is well, with peace and ease,
A perfect day, a dream come true.
Yet in my heart, a shadow lurks,
A darkened thought, a frightening sight;
A vision grim, that brings a shirk,
And fear that grows, with all its might.
For in this peace, I see a sight,
A broken body, a shattered soul;
With empty eyes, a cold release,
And scent of death, that takes its toll.
