The Essence Poem by R.S. Farris

The Essence

Fragile words on scattered sheets,
Looseleaf, blowing away, being
Swept in a whirlwind of time-
What poem could capture you?
A poem can crystallize moments,
Those fleeting short glimpses when
Glances, when phrases aspire to the
Poetic yearning to last, but you-
You are more than the moment!
Eternal, yet changing and moving
Towards life! The essence of you
Can't be jotted in ink, not scribbled
With careless abandon in rushed,
Stolen margins of time. The
Essence of you is more precious,
More sacred. I cannot explain you;
I watch from my vantage point,
Watch as you creep from the
Shadows, becoming a diamond
So brilliant, so fleeting, so pure,
Everlastingly you.
