The Eyes Of Fate Poem by I M Swan

The Eyes Of Fate

Rating: 5.0

Defeated in the battle of love
I stand alone with my sword of hope
The onslaught of pain
Was almost too much for me to cope

Looking out over the sea of despair
I watch the sun set on trust
Then I pick up my broken heart
Where it lay, tossed in the dust

Pride carries me towards the future
The past laughing in the wind
What I search for, I do not know
And loneliness becomes my friend

The scars of love lost always a reminder
Of what happens when you play with fire
Was it magic, a spell cast to lure me
To dance the dance of lust and desire

Now I wear the armour of caution
Courage and faith lighting my way
The beat of my heart leading me towards the unknown
Never knowing if today is the day

As I pass through the valley of pity
I wonder about loves creation
Can it be that it is just an illusion
Or a shadow of my imagination

Through the desert of hatred I scream with rage
' It's not fair', I cry to the Gods
'Don't leave me to wonder this world
Alone, forgotten and at odds'

As I reach the tree of life
Wisdom takes hold of my hand
I shake off loneliness
And prepares to make a stand

As I stare into the eyes of fate
I see you smiling back at me
The door to my destiny is hidden
But in your heart you hold the key

Once again the sun rises on happiness
And the story ends with laughter
Although it didn't start with 'once upon a time...'
It does end with '...happily ever after'.
