The Facade Poem by Pauline McVicar

The Facade

People only see one side of me,
They never look within,
They see the tough exterior,
And can’t see I’m wearing thin.

They believe I’m cold and heartless
Don’t think I know what emotion’s like,
Can’t believe my heart’s not made of stone
But with my feelings I’ll have to fight.

Not allowing people to get close,
Not letting them get inside,
Always keeping them at arms length,
I just want to run and hide.

Believing that I can’t be loved
Makes me and you seem surreal,
I try so hard to allow you in,
But I just can’t tell you how I feel.
