The Face That I Know Poem by Mary Jesusa Villegas

The Face That I Know

Wish the stains and dust

would remain there

and the soot

on the four sides of

the window

and the rust

and the light that leaves it

glowing

reminds me of my

childhood,

fading.

I know what to do

I'm sure that I do

But I lacked something

I forgot something too.

I want to go back

but time can't be undo.

I don't know if it's the neutral light

that makes my face glow

The little girl and the woman

combined

in the face that I know.
