The Falling Feather Poem by Efren Petalver Carranza

The Falling Feather

A feather
floating on the air
as white as a cotton
in the space of nowhere
stubbornly
hovering
off the ground
while the lost feathered-child,
from its winged-parent's
untimely death
by the act of wind-wild
that took her breath
forcefully
sending
its feather
falls
onto the girl's palm
blown with her wish…….
chirping
tweeting
chirping
as the feather
now muddled in the sand.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
A young boy sat by the window waiting for his mother to come home; A chick was waiting for its mother to bring food to its nest. And, what else could I compare to this same sadness for me, at seven, and my youngest brother, at four, when mother died? None! For losing a parent [or both] at our earliest age was the hardest part in one's childhood.

And yes! 911 brought me back once again the sadness that I had felt 10 years ago. And yes my friend! Why all cannot behave and make this world a better place to live? It is indeed sad, for we live on this earth between good and evil fighting with each other to win and rule.

I wrote this poem the day after 911 when one chick was tweeting from its nest on the tree in front of our house. I was on my way to work:
