The Fear Card Poem by Francis Duggan

Our Government is making us prisoners of fear
Of the threat of terrorism from them we often hear
Our sense of security and liberty in a clandestine way they destroy
For them to cling to power that does seem a good ploy
That the Government will protect us from harm we have this idea
But in our sense of insecurity we do fail to see
That the Government cannot guarantee us a longer life span
And if someone wishes to harm you they most certainly can
And in our naivety we fail to note
That the Government play their fear card for our vote
And the threat of terrorism for them a great fear card to play
As it does work well for them on election day
And the fear card for them never does fail to win
For the voters swear by them and vote them back in.
