The Fighter Poem by Johnny Eardley

The Fighter

Rating: 5.0

He acts like he has nerves of steel,
As he walks upon his battleground,
Fixing his eyes on his next foe,
Like there is noone else around.
His air of confidence gives him an edge,
Against the man across the way,
Show no fear, look into his eyes,
He knows this will be his day.
He has trained for this, given his all,
At a cost of family time,
Motivated to give them a happy life,
Without turning to crime.
His opponent is already beaten,
He is only here to fight,
Has no real motivation,
Like feeding his kids tonight.
Fighters love to fight,
We know that this is true,
But their fight will never go the distance,
That a Father is prepared to do.
He will put his heart into every fight,
Beacuse his rent needs paying,
His wife will watch from the sidelines,
Cheering but constantly praying.
Not necessarily that he wins the fight,
Her concern is that he makes it through,
She understands his reasons,
He understands hers to.
For he knows that without her,
Doing all that she does,
He definately wouldnt be the man,
Or the fighter that he was.
