The First Night Poem by Charlotte Ballard

The First Night

A small spring of
Clear sparkling joy
Has erupted silently
In the place of
Long dead leaves
Stored so carefully.
So long ago.
Words of no sound
Ripple from the outer edges
Lapping and rolling
Into nothingness
As more push out to
Take their place.

Small pearls of crystal
Drip from my fingers,
As I bring up a double handful
And giggle noisily
Like a child.
