The Flight Of Nini Neutrino Poem by Paul Hartal

The Flight Of Nini Neutrino

Nini hesitated. A massless neutrino, just born
out of another subatomic particle, a pion,
Nini was reluctant to take off.

"Nini, you must move now and at the speed of light",
said the pion.

"OK, OK. But can I move slowly? " said Nini.

"No", said the pion. "Your speed should be standard,
300,000 km per second. There is no such thing
as a small neutrino."

Nini swallowed her demur and gritted her teeth
but she took off.

It took then merely a miniscule fragment of
a second and Nini reached the surface of your skin
and penetrated it at the velocity of light.

However, she did not stop here, but kept moving
unbelievably fast, passing unimpeded and undetected
across the flesh and blood of your entire body.

However, she was not alone,
because accompanying her also travelled multitudes
of other neutrinos, which traversed your frame as well.

But you did not notice all this silent commotion.
For, as a matter of fact, myriads of particles,
thousands upon thousands of neutrinos pass through
your body in every second, in every day,
and you are completely unaware of them.
