The Four Elements: A Collage Of Poems Poem by Ros Venn

The Four Elements: A Collage Of Poems

One of The Elements

I spotted you in the corner of my eye,
You are so beautiful that someday while in your embrace I may die,
As I stared at you, I saw a darkness so dark that it reflected light,
I did not dare to look at you for long because it was night,

In my eyes you looked serene,
You looked almost dead,
You didn't make a sound I mean,
I still looked at you as I fled,

You sparked a passion for nature,
That I never knew I had,
In your element beauty is captured,
You've brought me happeness while I was sad.

Another One of the Elements

On a cold winter's night,
I sat by your side,
Looking for warmth, as one might,
I fear that eventually you'll begin to subside,

I watched as you danced,
Your reflection causing a flicker in my eye,
Occasionally there was a spark as you pranced,
Now all that is left are embers as you begin to die,

I gradually poke and prod you,
To see if there is still life inside,
Though smoke is your façade, tomorrow you'll be born anew,
Once the Ashes have cleared, you'd be like a phoenix on the outside.

A Third Element

Must you be so resistant,
Why is it me you push against,
Do you not know I am persistent?
I walk opposed to you with my fists clenched,

I have a destination to make,
You can try and knock me over,
But like the sun I'll get up again and partake,
At my location in shelter I'll find cover,

You howl at me as you pass by,
At last you cannot bother me,
I feel you scowl, your face in gas with a sigh,
Now cast yourself in another direction with my plea.

The Final Element

Finally, to you I have arrived,
Without you there would be no ground upon which I stand,
Blindly I walk on you, somehow I've survived,
No doubt you still be found here in every grain of sand,

You have reached the highest points a solid mass can,
In places you are full of holes,
But never have you preached in the slightest, unlike a human,
You win and lose all races, wearing shoes without soles,

You will stand the test of time,
For all that are have come from you,
Never a demand have you chimed,
And all that will be shall become you.
