The Girl In The Mirror Poem by Jacqueline Dorantes

The Girl In The Mirror

Rating: 5.0

I saw an image in the mirror,
Of a girl with dark, curly hair
And as I stared,
I wondered what she was doing there.

Her eyes were beady and droopy,
Her face long and hard
It was as if no one had noticed,
She’d been there all along.

I lost myself in her stare,
Unable to keep my eyes from her tears
Who was this girl in the mirror,
Silent all these years?

I dared not to speak to her,
Or to wipe away her tears
She had some silent stillness to her,
Formed by her crystal tears.

Clouds formed in the mirror,
Creating a thick film of mist
I caught only anger in her eyes,
And a hard, clenched fist.

The clouds were like a dust storm,
Enveloping her in their veil
I tried to not lose her,
But there was nothing left to trail.

I saw an image in the mirror,
Of a girl with dark, curly hair
And as I stared,
I realized it was me in there.
