The Governor's Address Poem by Michael John Cook

The Governor's Address

Not a dry eye in the house,
His words had echoed loudly,
The audience held in his grasp,
He had executed to perfection,
The message not lost on them,
His words had all been absorbed,
Some had been converted,
That were sceptical at first,
Others were simply in awe,
At this elderly gent upon his stage,
A hero for this moment,
Blazing an untrodden trail,
All he had wanted to achieve,
He had rewritten it over and over,
His words were true and from his heart,
His mind was sharp and clear,
Inspirational leader of the people,
Now returning from whence he had came,
Humbled by their forgiveness,
Yet empowered just the same
