The Greatest Country Of All Poem by Charles Vivian

The Greatest Country Of All

I heard the bullets
I heard the screams
I saw the fire
I saw the beams
I felt the death
I felt the pain
People were going mad
People were going insane
It doesn't matter how hard it gets
I just don't care at all...
Because I love my Country
When I hear her name I stand up straight and tall
I saw the blood
I saw the guns
I heard the shouting
But what I felt was love
No matter where it leads to
No matter if I die
I stare at all the smoke
I stare at all the lives
I look at the war around me
What a disgusting place
Yet at the same, beautiful
I felt I'd received a grace
To fight for my Country made me feel proud
I'd never run away... not then, not now
I saw our flag wave in the air
I swear it was going to fall
But it didn't even tilt
It stood there, ever so tall
I never would have guessed that I'd be in this great war
I never would have guessed that I'd be in this great horror
I never would have guessed that I'd be in this great beauty
I never would have guessed that I'd be in this state of pity
So, with our flag looking down on me
I know that I am free
I know I love in the greatest Country of all
With our flag standing there straight and tall
