The Gurkhas Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

The Gurkhas

The Gurkhas,
Gorakhs,
Cow protectors,
Baba Gorakhnath
To the Nepali kings,
Nepali-speaking peoples
Taking to the Himalayan kingdom
And places.

The Gorkhas,
The Nepalis,
The Gurkha Regiment,
The Gurkha with the rifle,
The Gurkha kukri,
The Gurkha hat,
The Gurkhas in the British Army
Fighting overseas,
Participating in World Wars.

The Gurkha military man,
The restauranteur,
The private security staffer,
The Gurkha chowkidar, pahradar
Guarding during the night,
Working as a night guard
Taking me to Gorkhaland,
The land of the Gorkhas.

A Gorkha
In hilly, clumsy dress
Selling shilajit,
Shilajit
With a Nepali, Gorkhali
Topi on his head,
The Nepali man from far off
Nepal to remotest places.
