The Harvest Smile Poem by Roy Merchant

The Harvest Smile

Rating: 2.5

The old man sat on the corner of the road
His daily work was done
He had gathered in his harvest
Ahead of the setting sun

For a whole long year he had toiled
To reach this point in time
Where his survival was assured
From all the dirt and grime

He looked up to high heaven
His gaze went up for more than a mile
And some where out there in the misty universe
Came back this Godly smile

He went down on his knees
And gave praise to the one on high
He asked for forgiveness and salvation
As the winter night drew nigh

He said dear Lord my redeemer
I thank you for getting me to this point
where my life is in perfect balance
And my soul you have anoint

I have felt your goodness and mercy
It has followed me through all of my days
I offer you my soul today
To be used in all of your ways.

I humbly beseech you dear Lord
to make me a small part of your plan
And give me the insight my Saviour
To help others to understand.

Again I looked up to high heaven
Again my gaze went up higher than a mile
And from somewhere deep within my soul
Came back this Godly smile.
