The Honey Bee Poem by Tan Pratonix

The Honey Bee

Rating: 3.8

I think that I shall never see
A marvel like the honey bee.

A bee that moves from flower to flower
Cross-pollinating every hour.

So many plants, so many trees
Depend on these hardworking bees.

Pesticides and climate change
Caused by humans quite deranged

Have led to bee hives dying out -
I feel like shouting, crying out,

'Why should the innocent honey bee
Die from devastating CCD? '

Neonicotinoids or neonics
Have put us in a deadly fix.

Monsanto, Bayer and killer corporations
Are busy bribing corrupt nations.

And that includes the EPA,
Guilty for ecocide today.

Government regulators close their eyes,
Millions are duped by greed and lies.

Governments bury their heads in the sand.
When will politicians come to understand

That human existence and destiny
Is tied up with the honey bee?

When honey bees vanish from Mother Earth,
There will be no second birth.

*****

NOTE:

Bees are dying by the millions. Bee hives are being wiped out. The finger of suspicion points to a group of insecticides promoted by Bayer called neonics. Einstein said if bees disappeared from the face of the earth, man would have only four years more to live.

CCD: Colony Collapse Disorder. What's happening to bee hives everywhere. The honey bee colonies are collapsing at an alarming rate. Mostly because of pesticides. IG Farben and Bayer are responsible; there's a Nazi link here, if you care to find out. But the arch culprit is Monsanto, if you wish to know. (Just look it up on Google!) i thought the message from you, suggesting i read some poems, said they were written in the 1970s. this certainly must be a more recent writing. true? it is always nice when i see a honey bee; it was not so nice to step on one while wearing no shoes! my mate would destroy Monsanto if she could. [now where DID that nuclear weapon go, which she always kept in her panties drawer. no! weapon! not vibrator! ! ] i have heard that work is being, or at least may be, done to pick out, from other species of bees (there are many) a replacement(s) for the honey bees, ..... just in case. maybe Monsanto is afraid of extinction like some other people are [Einstein does not have to worry! ], and are developing self-pollinating trees and food crops, genetically-engineered of course. bri :) very nice news update. i really don't mind much if mankind goes 'under' soon, but i hope it is painless, AND I'M STOCKING UP ON FOOD AND OXYGEN......just in case! bri ;)

This is a splendid poem, Tan. Bees are more precious than anything I know. You have written a passionate poem with great skill. I'm going to put this in my Favourites' list. I see my friend, Judith, has commented. She feels very deeply about nature, as you do.

You have drawn attention to a very serious problem with bees being killed off by pesticides. It needs to be taken seriously.
