The Horrors Of War Poem by Bridgid Patrick

The Horrors Of War

Rating: 5.0

Can we begin to understand
The cry of the innocents in foreign lands
Or the anguish shared on our own soil
When death and destruction take its toll.

When peace interrupted is commonplace,
When retaliation occurs at a rapid pace?
'Vengeance is mine, ' said the Lord,
But at the lamb the lion has roared.

Suicide missions perceived as valor,
Signs of compromise keep growing paler.
The guns, the bombs, the loss of lives
Where is peace when no one survives?

Where is righteousness in each barren region?
Bands of rebels form separate legions.
Why can't leaders together agree?

Constant bloodshed does not make people free.
Why can't life be serene once more?
Cease and desist the horrors of war.

There are those who care About the vision that you share, But others seem to think That peace-lovers will always shrink From the obligation to be firm And not the other cheek to turn Striking back is what they fear. Although your message is to hear That if 'we would just get along' All would be right for so long. But these are not reasonable folk At least in the way that you provoke They have a mission as great as yours Which is to see that their way endures And will grind peace into the dirt Regardless of the many that are hurt. The only way to answer their cataclysm Is to also stay the course of the mission And destroy the vestages of that most evil By any and all methods at desposal. Then perhaps (?) your children will see the day When peace and justice is here to stay.
